Introduction
The University of Cape Coast library is one of the largest academic libraries in Ghana. The collections are housed in a magnificent five-storey library complex in the heartbeat of the University popularly called 'New Site'. It has the capacity for holding 750,000 volumes excluding pamphlets and journals. It can seat 2000 users at a time. The library has generous opening hours from 9 a.m. to 10p.m. every day, with the exception of Sundays when it opens from 3p.m. to 10p.m. It is the most frequently utilized resource in the University, with approximately 5000 visits per day. It is a hybrid library with approximately 223,901 hard copies and a substantial number of e-books and databases to be accessed on the Internet.The library also supports departmental and hall libraries of the University.
Mission
The University of Cape Coast library is dedicated to assisting in the advancement of learning, research and dissemination of knowledge, serving the information needs of the University and its communities, according to the information resources within and beyond its walls, balancing services, traditional and innovative while stressing its role as a centre of learning and discovery.
Vision
To create an intelligent library for the University of Cape Coast that will meet and satisfy the information needs of the community without any forms of discrimination so as to provide effective leadership in Ghana and elsewhere.
Staffing
The library has eight (8) senior members, fifteen (15) senior staff a large army (60) of junior staff.
Resources
UCC library resources are mainly located in magnificent five-storey library complex namely the Basement, Lower Ground, Ground, First, Second and Third Floors. It also has library catalogues a number of computers. The library has both print and electronic resources.
